Here is our new Daily Tally thread for 2026. Use it however you wish, to keep track of your progress!

My goal for this year is 360 items gone from my home, not counting trash.

That was my original goal for last year, and I crushed it! I have significantly less stuff in my home now, so I think 360 will be a challenge. Here we go!

2026: 0/360

2025: 604/500 items gone!

2024: 600/600 items gone!

2023: 1002+ items gone!

Total: 2206+ items gone!

Lila, I vote for throwing out the office chair if you have something else to sit on, but that may be too hard. If it is comfortable, you could slipcover it, but it might still shed onto the floor and need vacuuming.

Yesterday I threw the frog boots in the trash. They were really cute and I loved them, but we bought them used, my kids used them, Bean used them, and now they leak.

Net out - 33

Thanks SubC. It is comfortable, but the flaking is really bad. I looked at covers, but it is complicated because the arms are attached and also have that flaking material on them. Regular arm covers won't work. I threw a blanket over it just until I can find a different chair. I use it for my zoon meetings. I asked my sons and they do not have any spare chairs. Kind of annoying because 2 years ago they gave away a bunch of old but good office chairs at my work!

I will keep looking for a replacement and then throw it out!

Out last night:
-8 + nice boxes broken down and recycled
- a half box of 2021 applesauce
- an entire box of 2023 Indian food packets

I hate throwing out food- huge waste of a lot of money 🙁

24/365 (I'm upping my goal to one thing per day for the year)

Lila, I agree with Subclinical...the chair should go. Once that flaking starts there's no going back and those flakes are nasty and can grind into other things like carpet, fabric, or paper and ruin them too.

If you have it, try Next Door, Craigslist, or Buy Nothing to see if anyone is giving away a chair. I see those given for free quite often. But, I'm sure I don't have to say...beware of those freebie groups and ONLY look for the chair!!

Processed a bunch of mail, got rid of ~3 inches to recycling and ~3 inches to shredding. Counting as 5 items (by the conservative inch!)

On another note, I didn't go shopping tonight at Kohl's (one of my nemeses)...no points for that, except in my head lol

Haven't gotten started yet tonight (I work), so I'll see where the spirit takes me 🙂

Treasure, I will give you points for not shopping at kohls! Kohls makes that really hard. They gamify their sales to make you shop!

This is another reason I do "net". So that I have to look at things and think "do I want that enough to subtract from my tally?"

Hi Treasure! It's great to meet you!

Lila, I don't think I'll ever try the chat - it's a specific time and I type slowly, but go bring us some more friends!

I don't have any outs today, but no ins either.
Good job to both of you!

Lila, good job tossing the nail polish! Get that bag gone!

I found seven books and four other things to get rid of today. My little bookshelf looks nice - it's clean and dust free and there are no objects in front of the books or books piled sideways on top of the other books - there is even a little space.

Net out - 25.

One pair of jeans that still fit but look awful with holes. I should have thrown them out a long time ago, but finally let them go today - into the trash.

Hi All, I'm going to join the tally keeping. I've been out of town, so missed a few days, but I'm going to follow Lila's plan and go for 360 items. Off to a slow start, but I hope to pick up steam. Out so far:

2 cute (to me) boxes
Some papers

3/360

(Hopefully I did this reply correctly- first time!)

Didn't sleep last night so did more. Managed to part with:

- ~5 Casino cards (1)
- Dried up, but cute little jar that I wanted to save
- Fancy pen
- ~4 old credit cards (1)
- 6 bookmarks (1) and found a perfect one to use that was a gift that had never even been opened

And some extra things I remembered from before:

- A bunch of food from refrigerator (1)
- A nail polish

So, 7 more out...will update number next time bc can't see it with this window open. I'm counting some multi-efforts as (1) so as not to get too into the counting weeds.

hi Treasure! Good job! I love the Tally. I will try to get a few things out today.

SubC, I met Treasure in the chat on this website. I found the chat maybe a week or so ago. It is at the link above that says Hoarding Support Group, if you ever want to try it.

I did take another bag of old food out of the freezer today but I have never counted food or trash in my own tally (others may). I will look around and see what I can part with today.

There has been a bin of nail polish and accessories on my shelf for YEARS. I stopped painting my nails a long time ago. I do get a pedi once in awhile. I threw all of them out as well as a bunch of things from a bathroom drawer. I am still having urges to go pick one or two polishes out of the trash, but they are old, and if I want to paint my nails I can spend a few bucks to get the color I really want. 29 items in all, out forever.

I need to take that trash out!

Good luck Lila!

Once again I do not have a number goal, but am going to track net in and out to keep myself accountable so that I know I am clearing the house instead of slowly filling it up.

However, this year I am not going to track every little thing. I am only going to track things that are significant. Significant either means it occupies a defined space - like a book, or an item of clothing, or a dish or game .. or it requires an effort from me to make the decision to let it go. Also I am no longer going to track any materials and supplies.

So if I get rid of yarn or buy yarn, I won't count it. But if I knit myself socks, I'll count the socks. And I might count something like a cardboard box - if it was an *important* cardboard box - lol, but you guys understand.

I am also going to track finished pottery vs. Sold/donated/gifted/thrown out pottery to understand my inventory changes over the year.

So, today
Items out - 8

I totally understand the important box, SubC!!

The Tally has begun:

1 duplicate, quite old jar of coriander, into the trash
1 stupid springform pan into the trash! You failed me, pan! Take a hike!
