Here is our new Daily Tally thread for 2026. Use it however you wish, to keep track of your progress!

My goal for this year is 360 items gone from my home, not counting trash.

That was my original goal for last year, and I crushed it! I have significantly less stuff in my home now, so I think 360 will be a challenge. Here we go!

2026: 0/360

2025: 604/500 items gone!

2024: 600/600 items gone!

2023: 1002+ items gone!

Total: 2206+ items gone!

Hi Lila, SubC, and Keeping,

I didn't forget about this, but I haven't really been getting rid of much lately, if anything. I read all your Tally reports and I'm so proud of you all for getting things out!

I am still trying- hope to have some more things to report this weekend.

- Made one return to the evil Kohl's

That's all I can think of at the moment, mostly just checking in. On to work on things now and hopefully make a bit of progress!

1 out, but forgot to check tally numbers before opening this window so will get it straight next time 🙂

Treasure - a store return is good! because you realized you made a mistake while you could still get your money back!

The hard part is not buying something else while you are in the store.

Well, the freezer just got taken. I am going to write a little about this...

My ex (Teen's dad) and I bought this freezer, a huge, probably 7 foot tall freezer, the biggest one I have ever seen, maybe 12 or 15 years ago. We had a lot of kids here and I was cooking all the time so we would buy things like meat and veg and bread on sale and keep the freezer stocked.

Then I started processing things from the garden (ex liked to plant tomatoes, peppers, things like that). So when all the kids moved out and ex also moved out I stopped cooking much. When I became vegetarian I stopped cooking even more. So the freezer became a hoard zone.

I still have a freezer on top of my fridge in the kitchen. And TotsDad has one like that AND a stand up freezer. So it was time to let it go. It feels like a step in the direction of empty nest acknowledgement.

The freezer was 75% full of stuff. I had to sort a lot of food, freezer packs, random items in there. I threw out a LOT. Some of the food was from 2012.

I would guess a dozen grocery bags of food went into the trash from there. I feel bad about the waste, but what's done is done.

Anyway, I sold it and now it is gone. All of that counts as one item gone from my house. Just like a pencil counts as one item. But this has a lot of emotional weight and is leaving a lot of free space and healing behind.

Lila, well done!

That was a big thing in every way!

I took bean to the book fair at school on Friday. I bought a book for me and a book for him. His went home with him (he was very excited!) but I am keeping mine here (it's a children's book) so that is another in.

Hi KeepingItReal,

Yeah, they used to work, but then one day they stopped.

Good job on the recycling and the gate!

hi SubC, Treasure, and KeepingItReal! How fun we can tally together!

After son moved out with all his things, I gathered up a few more things to give him that he can use. I also gave him some food, but food is not included in my tally unless it is, like, a package of food sitting in my storage room taking up space.

I gave him a mini fridge, 4 plastic containers with lids (4 items), 3 keurig accessories. 8 items total.

Hey Lila, Treasure, & Subc
I worked a bin of electronics. So far I sorted items and their chords. Put into the electronic whip recycling box what look broken and what I could not find pieces belong. My hub takes him to Best buy.

I have a few good ones that I think I can donate but I need to go through and make sure they work properly.

15 items ordered some ready to go some not.

1 small pile of books and paper. Sorted, recycled or put on shelf. 3 of them were to go back to library.

Small steps ... Still moving forward. Woohoo!! 🙂

Yay for recycling!

I am just puttering about the house today with my cold.

Leaving - one pair of jeans that is too holey for me, but very fashionable based on what is see "out there", 8 antique dolls in need of minor repair (some just need new hair) that I am never going to fix. And one board game with a destroyed box that was a gift from an old boyfriend 40 years ago. Dh suggested burning the whole game, but I put the game in a ziploc to donate and let him burn the box. Some of the game is plastic.

Ten items.

Net out - 84
And one pot.

I got 15 items donated today! One book and 14 DVDs. I sorted my collection, which has been sorted many times, and was able to part with another good chunk of them.

Thx SubC! Yes, Kohl's is a nightmare with their sales and Kohl's cash. They rope you in like crazy. I still have K cash to spend this month, but I'll see what I end up doing...

A couple more things out- food related:
- did not buy bread and instead rummaged around in my freezer and forced myself to eat a biscuit I found in there (was glad I did bc it was delicious!)
- While baking something else, found an old and suspect, but couldn't be sure if it was slightly puffed up, can of blueberry filling. I thought about opening it to see and give it the sniff test, but I decided to toss it instead (this is very good for me bc usually I will risk it lol)

Thought I'd try to keep myself motivated and part of the group by submitting my daily tally.
I cleaned off the top of a small bookshelf. That had about 5 items on it. Very cluttered looking and very dusty.
I also started writing down what I was doing throughout the day. Definitely cut me mindful. I think I accomplished more. Did free household chores.
Not too bad. Now I got to work with my children.
Tonight I hope to join the group to Buddy up cuz they have laundry.

Hi KeepingItReal50!

Glad to see you.

Today I put a collection of little people and a casserole carrier into a bag that I am filling for ds to take away in March. I'm calling that two. There is more progress for today that I will come talk about in the "what are you doing today" thread, but that is it for here for now.

hi Treasure and SubC! I've been sick, so it's slow going. But today, my youngest Son is moving out. I am giving him things to take with him that were mine, so they count.

- I gave him the keurig, spinny kcup holder, and a full box of kcups
- he is taking the cat, which is officially going to be his cat now, so I gave him the cat tree and litter box. He is taking other stuff too but those are the two things I bought before it was his cat.

I am sure there will be more of my stuff going, but for now, that is 5 items (cat not counted as he is a 'person' and not an item, lol).

A whole lot of stuff left that is his stuff, so does not count, but an entire large bedroom full is going. I will only count the dresser and nightstand, as those are mine but I gave them to him to take.

7 items added to the tally.

I agree that the cat is a person!

You are doing really well Lila!

I spent a little time on the basement. Ten plastic kid cups and one small portable file box with a missing lid. Normally I would not count the file box, but it is able to go because I pared down the files enough to not need it anymore.

So that is 11.

Hi Treasure! It's great to meet you!

Lila, I don't think I'll ever try the chat - it's a specific time and I type slowly, but go bring us some more friends!

I don't have any outs today, but no ins either.
Good job to both of you!

Hello Subclinical, nice to meet you, and hi again Lila!

A few more things out so far, one particularly hard.

- Some plastic vitamin bottles I was saving for...something (1)
- Used up all salvaged tinfoil
- Dehoarded Orange Chicken that had been in my freezer for almost a year- it was fine beyond a plethora of ice crystals
- A black jacket- this was the hard one. It was made of some PVC material or something which felt really nice and soft when I got it, but... I brought it on my recent trip and when I finally wore it I realized it was so old that it was actually crumbling and getting black specks all over everything. I had to let it go and threw it out, in the trash, no donating bc I didn't want to do that to anyone else.

So 4 more. I am counting anything that it gives me pain and angst to get rid of, so will sometimes be counting food to give myself credit for difficult things. I will probably only count a batch of food as 1 though so I don't get too bogged down counting individual French fries or something lol. Going to be working more today, hopefully will have some to add later.
