Right now I am getting ready to take Matt and Cory to my boyfriend's house. Then my boyfriend and I are going to go out to eat for supper and then go back to his house and have a movie marathon. The reason I am taking Cory and Matt with me to my boyfriend's house is because I am going to spend the night there tonight and Cory and Matt hate it when I am gone overnight. Hopefully I won't have any weird nightmares tonight, like I did last night. That was why my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to spend the night at his house tonight; because I told him about the weird nightmare that I had last night.

Tillie,
It really seems like he is putting in the effort right now. You are right that the embarrassment and shame might be triggering this thrust forward but don't be surprised if this is short lived. My hope is that he continues, but I fear he may just not invite anyone over again, then he doesn't have to face the negative feelings again, and he won't have to work so hard to clean it up. I would just use supportive means to let him know you appreciate it. Maybe telling him how proud you are isn't the right approach, not that you have dont that. But perhaps spinning it around to just say how great the areas look that he is cleaning up or how nice it will be to able to stay up on the maintenance now so this type of situation doesn't happen again with his friends. He needs that positive feedback but you need to figure out how to say it where he will appreciate it the most. My other fear is that the rain is going to stop all progress and he will lose motivation once the storm passes. He seems to be in a great mode right now, and its too bad the weather is going to halt that. Maybe he will continue indoors when the sprinkles start. Very happy for you and the progress he is showing the last few days! Talk to you soon my friend 😉

Good morning

Another cold but clear dry day.
Tomorrow the next storm system moves in.
The light dusting of snow from last night should not slow him down.
His plan is to keep working on decluttering that side yard.

I am hoping that he is learning the lesson here.
Putting off maintenance and hoarding massive amounts of stuff is no way to live and digging out and putting things right is hard work and very expensive.

He also seems a bit ashamed from having to face people and them seeing how he has been living.
These are people he has known for years but they have never been here before.

He finally admitted that the big old truck camper shell is rotted into the ground and is a useless bit of clutter now.
I told him that it can be taken apart, metal recycled, wood burned and other parts to the dump.

That is all I am doing to help him, make suggestions.

It's not my mess. 😀

Besides, I am not physically able to do hard labor any more.

Have a great day whatever you decide to tackle!

WTG! For your husband being able to burn all of the rotted lumber and wanting to get rid of all the scrap metal. 🙂

BREAKING NEWS!!!

He is burning more of that rotted lumber and pointed out to me that he is building a pile of metal closer to the side gate because it will be easier to load into the truck from there.

He came to this decision all on his own.
I haven't even mentioned the scrap yard to him in weeks. 😀

Hello 🙂

Today my plan is to...
do the daily tasks
vacuum the carpet
wash my hair
work on the new sewing project

He should still be decluttering the side yard.
He plans to just move (churn) the stuff to a new location and not think of getting rid of anything.
Honestly, it would be easier to get rid of it than to relocate it.
This is all stuff that has sat there for over a decade and is rotting and rusting and really no good for anything.
But he thinks he might need it some day.
That is why he is a hoarder. 😉

Have a great day! 🙂

OMG!!! I just met Dr. House! 😀

I just came back from an appointment with my neurologist that I see every 6 months about my epilepsy. Every time I go and see him he always has a younger doctor with him. And today while I was at my appointment the younger doctor that was with him was named Dr. House. 😀

Yeah I have learned something from all of the professionals from HOARDERS and also from watching all of the tv shows about the hoarding disorder. But most of what I've learned about the hoarding disorder I have learned from Cory and his websites 1-800-HOARDERS.com and this website hoardingcleanup.com. Every time I hear someone say that hoarding is not a true disorder I immediately get out my iPad and get on 1-800-HOARDERS.com to show them that hoarding is a true disorder.

He has been out decluttering that side yard since early morning.
He is still out there but the sun is setting and it is getting very cold.

😀

I have learned something from all the professionals that have posted on the A&E messageboard.
I have read the books and articles and learned from them too.

But having Cory and all the people who visit the chatroom giving me insight, motivation and answering all my questions is where I have gotten the most success.

Working with a reluctant hoarder who refuses to get professional help is why I needed the professional help to help me.

Watching HOARDERS and the way they deal with all the different personalities has given me a lot of ways to approach my hoarder to get the results that I am hoping for.

Before, I was in a very hopeless situation.
It is slow going and there is always back sliding.
But it is getting better all the time. 😀

Most of what I have learned about the hoarding disorder I have learned from Cory.

Honestly before I started having a crush on Cory, I just thought that hoarders were just lazy people who didn't like to clean their own house.

Good morning Cory 😀

We posted at the same time.

Thank you! 🙂

I am still in shock how easy it went and that he even stood up and took care of another problem without me even saying anything about it.

I think he is taking personal responsibility for the septic tank issue and now knows that the mess and expense is all because he did not do simple maintenance over the years.
He was hit in his wallet pretty hard too. 1,700.00 and he is taking it like a man. 😀

You have given me the knowledge, education and encouragement to stand up for what I need and I can't ever thank you enough.

(((hugs))) 😀

Good morning 🙂

Today I will continue to wash his laundry and the dishes he dug out of his room.

He has his work cut out for himself clearing the side yard.
That is where he has tossed a LOT of rotting old lumber, big heavy sheets of corrugated steel, old metal drums/barrels, fencing wire of all kinds, windows, doors, patio furniture, dead lawn mowers, an old camper off a truck, pipe.....
and the list goes on and on.

He could make a nice piece of change if he were to sell all this at the scrap yard.
Not enough to cover the cost of having to replace the leech lines but enough to make it worth his time to get rid of it all.

Tillie,
That is AMAZING!
I am so happy for you as you really needed an event like this to happen. I can't take the credit, as you never know how a hoarder will respond and I think you must have caught him when all the stars were in alignment. But, with that being said, you cohabitate there and he cannot live any way he wants to. He is an adult and needs to respect you and your home and it is ok for you to stand up and be heard...so congrats to you and your successful day!

HOARDERS can also be watched online on the A&E site.
That is where I watch it.
It is usually available shortly after 10pm PST.

I don't have that much planned for today. I just woke up a few minutes ago with a killer headache. So right now I am going to take something for my headache and then watch the episode of HOARDERS that I recorded last night.

Hey Tillie,
Yeah you are probably right. Probably nothing will happen. 🙂
I won't lie though; if something does actually happen on December 21st I really hope that it would be something like alien robots coming to earth to live with us. Kind of like in the movie "Transformers". That would be pretty awesome. 😉
OPTIMUS PRIME FOR PRESIDENT!!! Lol.

WTG! On being able to get your husband to Declutter and clean his room. 🙂

I can't believe how this day turned out.
This morning I calmly and rationally explained what he needed to do in his bedroom.
He said OK but that he needed to go talk to someone first.
He returned shortly with a man who replaces septic systems for a living.
Not maintaining our septic tank has destroyed our leech lines.
The man pointed out to him that he needed to declutter the side yard for the work to be done.
My hoarder spent many hours out there and he even started to burn some old rotten lumber he has been holding onto for years.

Then he came inside and cleaned his room for hours. Even shop vacuumed and got those big cobwebs too.
His room no longer stinks and is not dangerous any more.

He plans to work decluttering the side yard the rest of the week and the work installing the new lines is scheduled for the end of next week.

You were right Cory! 😀
It was time to push him.
But it all went so easy this time and he even got busy on important stuff without me even mentioning it.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Sincerely, Tillie 😀

Ok, I am officially scared of what might happen on December 21st of this year. Right now I am watching a documentary on NatGeo about the end of the world and what might happen on December 21st. It's kind of freaking me out. I was originally going to throw a party on December 20th that I was going to call "the end of the world party." because I didn't really think that anything is actually going to happen on December 21st. The party is supposed to start around 8:00pm and then end around 6:00am on December 21st; but now I'm starting to change my mind and I think I might go hide inside a bunker instead. They are talking about some really freaky stuff happening on December 21st.

Good morning 🙂

OK
Today's plan is to "motivate" my hoarder.
Starting with his bedroom.
Last time he cleaned/cleared the center of the room and the bed but did not do around the edges.

Since then the clutter has crept back into the center and some back onto the bed.

It is mostly garbage/trash and that rubble kind of stuff all over the carpet.

His T0-DO list.....
Gather all dirty laundry, strip the bed too.
Bag up ALL the trash and take it out to the can.
Shop vac up all the rubble.

That should improve the smell in there 100%.
Then I will allow the door to be open to take advantage of the warmth in the rest of the house.

This may take more than one day to accomplish, depending on how much effort he puts into it.

Wish me luck! 😀

Hey Tillie,
ROTFLOL! 😀
I actually would not be surprised if Cory and Matt did leave the toy there on purpose just to trip me. Lol. Because they love to do stuff like sneak up behind me and jump on me while I'm doing stuff around the house. And sometimes when I'm laying in bed and they decide to jump up onto the bed they always jump up on the side that I am laying on. Lol. 🙂

The sun is shining, no clouds or fog.
Beautiful day but cold.

He left this morning but came back already.
His friends are probably tired of him always hanging around with them. 🙂

I am still waiting for him to do something/anything around here.
There is soooo much that needs to be done and it's all his stuff so I can't just start tossing or unsqualoring.

I am sitting at the bottom of this deep dark well of depression.

Anyways...
My To-Dos for today are
shower & get dressed
try to remember that tonight at 5pm PST is chat

Try to make this a good day! 🙂

OMG! I just woke up a few minutes ago and I just totally realized that I still have the bandage on my arm from when I got my flu shot yesterday. I can't believe that I forgot that I still have it on; because normally whenever I get my blood drawn for my epilepsy, I always take the bandage off right away; because it always bugs me to have it on. But for some reason I totally forgot about my flu shot bandage from yesterday. I probably forgot about it because I got my flu shot on my shoulder; and when I get my blood drawn for my epilepsy, I always get my blood drawn in the middle of my arm; and then after I get my blood drawn the nurse always puts a cotton ball right under the bandage; and it always bugs the crap out of me. But the nurse never put a cotton ball under the bandage after I got my flu shot yesterday. So that was probably why I forgot about it.

OUCH!!! I literally just fell into the bathroom door. 🙁
I accidentally tripped over a dog toy which then caused me to fall into the bathroom door.
