Happy New Year! Happy new Daily Tally!

I decided that since I said I was sure I could find 500 things to get rid of in my home this year, I would make my goal 600 in 2024, to stretch myself a bit.

Today I donated: 6 items of clothing, threw out an old bowl, and sold a stroller that was in the garage.

2024: 8/600

2023: 1002+ items gone

My tools arrived. I took them out and got busy using them - which is after all the point- but did not take time to do a rummage for tools that can leave in their place. I'm just going to count them in.

Bean and I completed the library summer reading program and were awarded t-shirts. I like my t-shirt, so I'm keeping it.

One book added to donate pile. Doesn't seem like much, but the point was a net item a day, so today is a day I don't fall behind.

yes, SubC, awareness is the first step. It is good you are working on the incoming things. I am not to that point yet, but I plan to use this idea in the future, at least when I get into my new home.

Today's tally so far:

1 small toy
1 filing box with files (counting as one item)
Donated.

Go Lila!

It's just that the progress seems so small. I guess that's one of the reasons I started this though - because I felt like I kept working on it and working on it, and getting nowhere. And now I have to really look at the steady trickle in and not just the struggles to get it out. I really thought I had pretty much stopped bringing things in, but it turns out that I still bring a surprising number of things in - even when I don't buy stuff.

I did decide to part with two freezer containers today. I am moving more toward dehydrating and freezing in glass jars (which I have).

SubC, it makes me happy that you are here posting away, even while I was gone for a long time. You have to see your progress, even if more items come in sometimes. You ARE making progress.

What feels great to me is cleaning out something with a lot of small items, like, a pen drawer or something. If you go through and donate 10 pens, that is a lot of items! Feels like I did something significant.

Just don't give up. You are still in the positive on items gone out!

I sorted in the play room and my bedroom a tiny bit. Items donated or thrown out:

1 cat toy
1 sock with no partner
4 notebooks - I gave these to Tot, but she will use them up and they are in her "space" now, not mine,
4 books
a dish drying mat
4 small toys I don't like

So that's 15 items gone!

There has been a little more in and out, but it has basically been me replacing items, so I haven't posted it.

Today Bean took his tractor flag and one of my blankets home as decorations for his new room. I also put 9 books in a box to eventually take to ds. Normally I don't count things that aren't "mine" but these have been left behind on my bookshelf for years. And I am counting them now. Later I will just deliver the box with no counting.

I finished cleaning up the disaster Teen created with her cat. Into the trash:
2 sheets
2 pillowcases
5 dusting cloths
3 more towels
3 more hand towels
3 more washcloths
all soaked in cat urine and I am not going to even try to clean this. And, I am not replacing them. So, out they go.

another, simple landline phone
a CD/radio alarm clock that has been on my nightstand for over 20 years, but I have not used it in at least 5, since I use my phone for an alarm and spotify for bedtime music.
both donated.

How's it going, Alanna and SubC? I am working on my room today. So far:

2 books I was reading for Lent - donated
one printed-out copy of a book that printed very small but I was going to try and read it - into the trash

Alanna, how is that going?

I did not post about the garage clean out because the items that left were either
Not mine
Actually trash, compost, or recycling
In one case balanced by item brought home from free tables at school.

But today I had to go to the farm store.

In:
One raccoon trap
One flat back rubber bucket

Well done on your progress Lila and SubC. 🙂 I'm joining you for some accountability and motivation. I'm just starting with getting rubbish ready to go out (even if it means checking, just getting it out is the goal) and getting some laundry caught up.

Goals for the week:
- 7 loads of laundry; done 1
- 7 bags of rubbish; done 0

Thanks Lila.

I don't think I realized how hard this would be. Or how much has likely been creeping in even with my attempts to clean out the last decade.

I found a pencil pouch teacher gift I forgot tucked into my lesson planner.

SubC, your accountability is such a win! Knowing what is coming in, assessing it and keeping it for a reason, and getting rid of things - all of that is progress. The numbers are secondary (but still important)!

I have nothing to report. Just wanted to stop by and cheer you on!

Ok, teacher gifts that cannot be eaten or planted plus scavenged items brought home from other teacher's discard piles outside their rooms yesterday:

Candle (will regift)
Little backpack crossbody bag (girt receipt, will return)
Picnic blanket that folds up to a little rectangle with a handle - (Bean loves it, will probably keep)
Set of red dragon gaming dice (I love it, will definitely keep)
Three workbooks with fun learning activities to do with Bean
One thin ring binder

6 items. Not too bad.

WTG SubC.

Yesterday I got rid of an entire moving van's worth of junk, thousands of pounds I am guessing. Let me take a stab at what left, although it was his and I won't count it.

2 mattresses
2 mattress toppers
1 dresser
1 tall cabinet
1 bed frame
1 filing cabinet
1 metal locking cabinet
1 walker
4 hard suitcases and 4 soft suitcases
3 VCRs
a desk
25 boxes of books (maybe average of 2o books in each)
3 boxes of junk mail and papers
25 large rubbermaid totes full of items, like clothing, wires, files of papers, shoes, flashlights, water bottles, bottles of pennies, books of stamps, etc - I would estimate average of 120 items per tote
8 smaller totes of junk, maybe 50 items per tote
about 5 bags of junk like toothbrushes, combs, razors, cups, forks, seed packets, random things. Probably 75 small things per bag.
Loose items like tea pot, thermoses, puzzles, games, shoes, coats, posters, maps, pillows, blankets, cushions - total of about 50.

I am sure I am missing things. But that totals about 4,350 items left my home yesterday!

Not counting in my Daily Tally since it all belonged to ex, but wow. What a weight off!
