I am a 41-year-old female living at home with my parents, who are in their late 70s. Our house has become so out of control that we're now battling fruit fly and ant infestations. Virtually every room is so messy and piled up with stuff that we can't invite anyone over anymore.

I'm at the end of my rope. I've tried talking to my parents about this, but they either get angry or deny that there's a problem. Quite frankly, they are physically unable to take care of the house now (Mom has severe arthritis, Dad back problems and other health issues). Unfortunately I'm not much help--I too have health problems, so none of us can handle the massive cleanup that is necessary. I fully admit that I've contributed to the mess as well--I'm not proud of it, believe me.

We're in the Chicago area--are there any trustworthy companies that can come in, thoroughly clean the house, throw out garbage, etc.? Cost is somewhat of a factor, as is discretion (no way would my parents agree to any major cleanup company with a big sign on their truck).

I'd appreciate any advice and explanation as to how these cleaning firms work. I'm truly afraid the mess could affect our health. Thank you very much for your help!
