Children of hoarders

Does any one have experience with children in hoarded conditions?

I've been trying to help my sister clean her hoarded house. I now see that as an impossibility as she won't let anything out of the house. I love my sister dearly, and her family, as messed up as they are. I can't change her. My problem is my grand niece who lives there. A sweet child who seems to make the best of it. It breaks my heart that she is growing up in a completely disfunctional home.
Thank you for any bit of info that might help.

I had the joy of growing up in a hoarded home. No kid should have to grow up in that environment. It is fortunate that you care about them. If they can live elsewhere, that would be ideal.

Hi Bekz! Im so sorry to hear about your sister and her child's situation. That is absolutely a difficult one! I wish i had some advice or suggestions? If you havent already, you may want to check the other threads on this site for discussions on that. It is a subject that is brought up a lot on here, and certainly an important one! All the best to you in your efforts to help your niece?! Someone else on here may have some suggestions? I know theres a good book for the loved one's of hoarders called, 'Digging Out'. It may have something on ways to help with children? 😀
