Does any one have experience with children in hoarded conditions? I've been trying to help my sister clean her hoarded house. I now see that as an impossibility as she won't let anything out of the house. I love my sister dearly, and her family, as messed up as they are. I can't change her. My problem is my grand niece who lives there. A sweet child who seems to make the best of it. It breaks my heart that she is growing up in a completely disfunctional home. | |

I had the joy of growing up in a hoarded home. No kid should have to grow up in that environment. It is fortunate that you care about them. If they can live elsewhere, that would be ideal. | |

Hi Bekz! Im so sorry to hear about your sister and her child's situation. That is absolutely a difficult one! I wish i had some advice or suggestions? If you havent already, you may want to check the other threads on this site for discussions on that. It is a subject that is brought up a lot on here, and certainly an important one! All the best to you in your efforts to help your niece?! Someone else on here may have some suggestions? I know theres a good book for the loved one's of hoarders called, 'Digging Out'. It may have something on ways to help with children? 😀 | |
