I read a main topic in here - How to Help a Hoarder >> Steps Needed for a Hoarder to Change - that Cory posted which was very helpful and ohsotrue.

For me, it helps to have a trusted family member or friend just sit with me and as I go through a box, a bag, anything at all, to put the items in a designated box under my direction.

I love it when I can close and label a box, throw out the discards, and on to the next item!

Sadly, it is rare that anyone either wants to or has the time, and having more than one person at a time is too stressful for me as I do want to see every item for myself, even though I have made good strides in letting go (far from perfect still, though).

Another way to help that I appeciate is plain old listening. I can talk about my problems with some knowledge and I learn more and more as I go, its useful when someone will listen about it before diving in with the thought its easy. It is NOT easy.

I have even gone so far as to ask them to watch a Hoarders episode first, pausing to explain and discuss my particular situation. Education is key, understanding is vital, kindness is a balm.
