I completely understand that hoarding is a mental illness and my fiance does too, but unfortunately the rest of his family is not on board. They keep saying his mom needs a "fresh start", but she literally had one just 5 years ago and here we are AGAIN! I am at the point where I want to just "be done" with her, I don't know what to do. I have been trying to find someone in the central Indiana area that deals with hoarding and I have had no luck on that front either. Any advice/suggestions are readily welcome!

maybe move her to an assisted living place where she will get regular housecleaning services, but still keep a lot of her freedom.

Hi Mary 🙂

My suggestion is for you to "click" on the Indiana link to the left on this page and ask the clean up company if they know of anybody near you.
They would probably know.

You are right, cleaning up the house without the person with hoarding tendencies working on the issue, will just rebound with the house filled up again.

A good book is "Digging Out". It's for people who are dealing with someone with a hoarding problem.

Another good book is "Buried In Treasures".
It uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help people overcome their hoarding behaviors.

Good luck and best wishes.
