I'm not sure, but on the new one can you see if anyone is on/in the chat room without signing in?

I did see the new one before and when I did sign in I realized I wasn't out just because I closed my web browser, I actually have to log out of it, which I didn't know before.
I did read what Cory had posted about the new chat room though before I tried signing in.

I checked the board at 8p Central and waited, but didn't see anybody then checked again at 9.

I do know who it is that is in London, but didn't know when meetings are taking place. I didn't see anyone on Tues night.

Does the meetings still meet on Sundays?

Sunday and Tuesday are the official days; the start time is noted on the chat page itself. For a while, we were also trying an unofficial regular meet on Friday, earlier in the day, for the benefit of one member several time zones further east.

In general, though, anyone can post a note here when they'd like to have an off-schedule chat, and see who else shows up. I'd recommend announcing it at least two days in advance, to give people time to have read the message before the chat actually occurs.

What days and times is everyone around for the online chat? Is Sunday the only day?

Sorry to those who were hoping to catch me over the weekend; I didn't get home until about 1am. I'll be going to sleep "soon", I expect, and I'll open the chat room when I get up; as a wild guess, maybe 12:00 PDT / 3:00 EDT.

As usual, since the first person to show up might not be watching the screen, later arrivals are encouraged to be patient when waiting for a response.

Excellent suggestions, Karl! I actually ran my cursor over the entire chat text and copied it into a Word doc so that I had all your suggestions from yesterday saved. The forum doesn't highlight the text, so at first I didn't think I could copy it. But, I right-clicked my mouse and the copy option was there.

Note: The following problaby goes without saying, but I think it should be stated: If you do save the content of the chat window, please do not re-publish online and have it be for your own personal use. I consider the content of the chat completely confidential, including comments, names, etc. I plan to keep only the content of references and suggestions such as book titles and techniques. I will delete everything else. I think everyone would appreciate it if we all follow the same protocol.

I like that people are making suggestions for changes to the way we do stuff in chat and voting on the issues.

Here are some thoughts I had about the chat room; maybe others will find this useful.

• Be prepared to take notes! Often someone makes an awesome suggestion, and if you don't write it down, you might forget by the time the chat is over.
• If we're giving everybody a time limit to have the floor, then you can use the time before your turn to think about what you might say. Again, notes can be helpful here; write down some ideas on what you'll be saying, so that you won't hem and haw while the clock is running. If you know you'll have a lot to talk about, you can even have a monolog prepared in advance using some other tool, and paste it into the chat a line at a time so that you won't waste time typing it again.
• If you come to the chat room for an off-schedule meeting, and there are people in there but nobody answers you, please don't leave immediately -- they might be doing something else while waiting for people to show up.
